Guide to Surviving and Thriving at SEMA 2024

SEMA 2024 is fast approaching, and for automotive professionals, it’s an event you don’t want to miss. Whether you’re a first-time attendee or a seasoned veteran, navigating the massive show can be overwhelming. With over 140,000 attendees and countless exhibitors, including Coats at Booth #44041, it’s essential to have a game plan. Here’s your ultimate guide to surviving and thriving at SEMA 2024.

Pre-SEMA Show Preparation

Before you even step foot in the Las Vegas Convention Center, some key preparations can make your experience more enjoyable and productive:

  1. Check the Weather & Pack Accordingly

SEMA happens in early November, and while Vegas is known for its warm weather, temperatures can drop in the evenings. Be sure to pack layers, especially if you’re attending outdoor events like SEMA Fest.

  1. Comfortable Shoes Are a Must

With over 1 million square feet of exhibits, you’ll easily hit 50,000 steps a day. Make sure to break in your walking shoes ahead of time to avoid discomfort. Pro tip: bring some band-aids just in case you get blisters.

  1. Stay Hydrated

Vegas is in the desert, and the dry climate can take a toll. Carry a reusable water bottle and stay hydrated throughout the day. You can also try adding hydration-boosting electrolytes to your water for extra hydration, just make sure to follow the usage instructions on the package. For those not accustomed to the dry air (especially East Coasters), consider packing eye drops, lip balm, and moisturizing lotion to stay comfortable.

  1. Download Key Apps

Before heading to Vegas, download the SEMA Show and AAPEX Show apps. These will help you navigate the venue, create a schedule, and keep track of events. Additionally, install Uber and Lyft apps for quick transportation around the city. Another option for transportation is the Las Vegas Monorail, depending on which hotel you are staying at there may be a stop nearby, so it’s a good idea to purchase passes ahead of time and have the Monorail app downloaded.

  1. Have Your Business Cards Ready

Networking is a big part of SEMA. Make sure you have plenty of business cards on hand. A smart tip is to store a few in the back of your attendee badge so they’re always easily accessible.

Maximizing Your Time at the SEMA Show

SEMA is packed with products, demos, educational sessions, and networking opportunities. Here’s how to get the most out of your time:

  1. Visit the New Product Showcase

One of the must-see attractions at SEMA is the New Product Showcase. This area offers a preview of the latest and greatest innovations in the automotive aftermarket industry. It’s a great starting point to see what catches your eye and plan which booths you want to visit in more detail.

  1. Attend Educational Seminars

SEMA is not just about products; it’s also about education. Take advantage of the various seminars available throughout the show. These sessions offer insights into the latest trends, business strategies, and technological advancements in the automotive industry.

  1. Take Advantage of Show-Only Deals

Many exhibitors, including Coats, will be offering exclusive show-only deals and rebates. This is the perfect time to make purchasing decisions for your shop, whether you’re buying one piece of equipment or outfitting an entire facility. Remember to do your homework beforehand—know your customer demographic, your shop’s environment, and the features you need to ensure the products you buy align with your business goals.

  1. Network, Network, Network

With so many industry professionals in one place, SEMA is a prime opportunity to network. Whether you’re chatting with exhibitors or fellow attendees, these connections can lead to valuable business relationships. And don’t forget about evening events like SEMA Fest—an excellent opportunity to unwind while expanding your professional network.

  1. Plan Extra Time for Getting Around

This year Formula 1 race construction will yet again affect getting around Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Grand Prix makes its return to the Sports and Entertainment Capital of the World on November 21-23, 2024. However, the 3.8-mile track weaves past world-famous landmarks, casinos and hotels, cutting right through the middle of The Strip. Be aware of construction, lane closures, and temporary bridges that will cause more traffic when coming and going from the show.

Extra First-Time SEMA Attendee Tips

Here are some extra tips if this is your first time attending SEMA:

  • Bring a power bank: You’ll be using your phone a lot to navigate, network, and snap pictures. Keep a portable charger handy.
  • Plan your route: Even if something looks close on the map, the size of the convention center can be deceiving. Be sure to plan your route in advance to avoid long walks between booths.
  • Hydrate and Rest: Stay hydrated, and make sure to rest when you can. SEMA can be a marathon, not a sprint!
  • Download Essential Apps: Before you head out, download the SEMA Show app, as well as Uber or Lyft for easy transport around town.
  • Keep Business Cards Handy: Store extra business cards in the back of your badge holder for quick and easy access when networking.

Follow these tips, and you’ll be well on your way to a successful experience.  Be sure to follow Coats on social media for live updates, behind-the-scenes action, and more exciting announcements leading up to the event. See you at SEMA 2024!
