Aluminum Truck Tires – Tire Changer Vedio Guide

Aluminum Truck Tires – Tire changer

Using a Coats APS 3000 Tire Changer

Changing truck tires, especially 19.5 polished aluminum alloy wheels, can be challenging due to their size, weight, and sensitive finish. We will guide you through the step-by-step process of safely changing these tough tires using a Coats APS 3000 tire changer with a truck cone kit. Follow along to ensure a secure and damage-free tire replacement.

Understanding the Alloy Wheel

The 19.5 polished aluminum alloy wheel has a hub center of 221 mm, making it exceptionally large. Due to its highly polished surface, extra care is needed to avoid scratches and damage during the tire change process. This type of wheel is best suited for leverless tire machines, which minimize the risk of damage while ensuring a smooth removal and installation process.

Setting Up the Tire Changer

Before proceeding with the tire change, it is crucial to properly set up the Coats APS 3000 tire changer with the optional truck cone kit. Here’s how:

  1. Remove the top of the pedestal on the tire changer.
  2. Install the spacer backing, which is included in the truck cone kit.
  3. Secure the spacer backing to the changer using the provided thumb screws.

With the setup complete, we can now move on to mounting and dismounting the tire.

Mounting the Wheel on the Machine

To begin the process of removing the tire, follow these steps:

  1. Use a wheel lift to place the heavy wheel and tire onto the machine.
  2. Install the extra-large truck cone into the hub center of the wheel.
  3. Insert the smart lock device through the cone and into the pedestal.
  4. Ensure everything is properly settled and tighten the smart lock.
  5. Once secured, the wheel is clamped to the machine and ready for bead breaking.

Loosening the Beads

Loosening the beads efficiently is crucial for a smooth tire removal process. Here’s how to do it using the Dynamic Bead Loosening Rollers:

  1. Position the top roller close to the tire.
  2. Bring the bottom roller up until it just touches the side of the tire.
  3. Slowly rotate the tire while pushing up with the bottom roller to loosen the bottom bead.
  4. Once the bottom bead is loosened, move the roller away.
  5. Bring in the top roller and repeat the process for the top bead.
  6. Rotate slowly and take small bites to avoid unnecessary force on the wheel.

Proper Lubrication

Lubrication is essential to facilitate smooth tire removal and installation. Follow these steps:

  1. Apply high-quality paste lubricant to the tire bead.
  2. Lubricate the drop center of the wheel to ease the dismounting process.

Leverless Tire Dismount

With lubrication in place, the next step is to remove the tire using the leverless tire machine:

  1. Position the leverless head against the edge of the wheel and lock it in place.
  2. Lower the bead hook and position the top roller to assist in lifting the bead.
  3. If the bead does not move over the hook, rotate it 2-3 degrees counterclockwise to allow proper positioning.
  4. Use the robo arm to apply pressure 180 degrees from the leverless head to hold the tire in the drop center.
  5. Begin rotating clockwise to dismount the top bead.
  6. For the bottom bead, use the bottom roller to push up while ensuring the opposite side stays in the drop center.
  7. Once the tire is removed, clean the wheel in preparation for the new tire.

Mounting the New Tire

After removing the old tire, the next step is to mount the new one. Follow these guidelines:

  1. Lubricate both the inner and outer beads of the new tire to ease the mounting process.
  2. Apply a thin layer of paste lubricant to the drop center of the wheel.
  3. Use a wheel lift to place the new tire onto the machine.
  4. Tilt the machine forward and reposition the leverless head.
  5. Position the tire under the duck head and use the top roller to prevent bead misalignment.
  6. Apply slight pressure using the robo arm to hold the tire in place.
  7. Rotate the machine to allow the tire to be properly seated onto the wheel.

Final Inflation

Once the tire is mounted, it is time to inflate it to the correct pressure:

  1. Transfer the wheel and tire assembly to an inflation cage.
  2. Ensure the bead is properly seated before inflating.
  3. Inflate the tire to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure.
