Changing a 30 Series Tire Using the COATS 90X Tire Changer
The COATS 90X tire changer is a high-performance tool that is precise and easy to use. Its best external clamping and leverless operation allow it to handle standard passenger tires and performance models easily. The following are step-by-step instructions on demounting and mounting a 30 Series tire using the COATS 90X.
Preparing the Tire for Demounting
First, install the bead-loosening bootie onto the bead-loosening shoe. Once it is placed, roll the tire into position against the bumper pads. Before making any moves, always ensure that the valve stem is at the 2 o’clock position to avoid damaging the TPMS sensor.
Demounting should start by loosening the bead on the narrow mounting side of the wheel. This will make the process much easier and safer, and the wheel will not be damaged. Then, loosen the bead on the other side of the wheel to complete this stage.
Mounting the Tire on the Tire Changer
Put the wheel in the Grip Max clamps using the Robo-Arm to push against the rim and support it as it clamps down from the outside. Engage the clamp control pedal to draw the clamps inward and snap them into the detent position so the wheel is securely locked. This setup is essential for safe and efficient tire removal.
Demounting the Tire
First, lower the sidewall using the Robo Arm and Robo Roller. Then, use the clearance created to place the leverless duck head tool to remove the tire. Lastly, lubricate the upper bead heavily to facilitate easy tire removal.
Lock the swing arm to place it at the side of the rim and align the valve stem over the tail of the duck head tool. Lower the bead lifter tool until it hooks onto the top bead. Using the pedal on the tabletop, rotate the wheel to continue rotating the wheel until the top bead is completely out.
For the lower bead, hold the tire in position using the Robo-Arm. Bring the leverless tool down, hook the lower bead, and rotate the wheel to sweep the bead all around the rim for removal. When both beads have been demounted, use the duck-head tool’s releasing mechanism to remove the tire from the machine.
Installing the New Tire
Lubricate both the upper and lower beads before mounting the new tire. Give special attention to performance tires, which require more lubricant for installation.
Position the valve stem at 9 o’clock when beginning at the bottom bead. Position the tire over the rim so that the bottom bead is above the rear extension and below the front knob on the leverless duckhead tool. Lock the swing arm and rotate the wheel using the tabletop pedal onto the rim, mounting the bottom bead.
On the upper bead, leave the valve stem at the 9 o’clock position. Tilt the bead lifter tool slightly onto the top bead so that it does not move from under the front knob of the duck head tool. Using the Robo-Arm and Robo-Roller, push the bead into the drop center before rotating the wheel until completely mounted on the top.
Final Steps
Once the tire is fitted, unlock and move the swing arm back from the wheel. Remove all clamps so that the bead seats properly when inflating the tire. Finally, seat the bead and inflate the tire to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure.
The above process can help you use the COATS 90X tire changer easily, more efficiently, and safely for tire changes. The whole process does not damage sensitive parts like the TPMS sensor while being hassle-free with standard tires.
